44th Ward Ald. Tom Tunney’s office is in the final stretch of its second annual donation drive. Running through Friday, Dec. 28, people can donate personal hygiene products, toiletries, cleaning supplies and other similar items.

Bennett Lawson, Ald. Tunney’s chief of staff, said this year’s drive has been just as successful as last year’s, if not more so.

“We’ve received literally hundred of products, everything that was on the list,” Lawson said. “We’ve seen the full gamut.”

The 44th Ward is partnering with House of Good Shepherd, the Vital Bridges Center on Chronic Care, Lakeview Pantry and the youth shelter The Crib, to distribute the items once the drive closes.

House of Good Shepherd, 1114 W. Grace St., is a women’s shelter and Catholic charity. Vital Bridges is an HIV/AIDS care center in Boystown. Lakeview Pantry is an extension of the Chicago Food Depository and has locations at 3831 N. Broadway St. and 1414 W. Oakdale Ave. The Crib is an overnight youth shelter operated by the Night Ministry located at 835 W. Addison St.

Partnering with the various organizations has helped the drive sustain its success this year, Lawson said.

“The word has been out there,” he said. “There’s more awareness.”

Holiday hours at Ald. Tunney’s 44th Ward office, 1057 W. Belmont Ave., through Friday are Noon – 6:00 p.m. Donations will be accepted until the end of the day on Friday, Lawson said.
